GQ Recap: December 2011

The staff at Gentlemen’s Quarterly recently wrapped up 2011 with their annual Men of the Year issue. An issue that often contains women in the category as well. Annually, the issue highlights notable personalities who had an exceptional or breakout year in their field. Featuring several different covers, this years individuals included music mogul Jay-Z, Mila Kunis, and a joint cover containing both Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon.

In addition to a sit-down pizza eating interview with GOP Presidential hopeful, Herman Cain, the December issue contains a slew of quirky feature spreads. From NBA stars such as Blake Griffin and Shannon Brown to The Year In Music review-like spread, in which the magazine anoints Frank Ocean as “Rookie of the Year”. And among a plethora of superb editorials, EIC Jim Nelson authored his most captivating, overly amusing Letter from the Editor of 2011 (ranting about the exotic animals slain in Ohio and illustrating its slight correlation with the anarchy of our society).

The 25 Least Influential People of 2011 rounded off the issue, highlighting President Obama as #25, saying that he “wields all the power of a substitute teacher at night school.”

The issues hit stands last week.
